STEERING COMMITTEE ON YOUTH PEACE & SECURITY ENGAGES WITH STATE DEPARTMENT FOR YOUTH AFFAIRS

On Monday, October 23rd, members of the Steering Committee on Youth Peace & Security, working towards UN Resolutions on Peace & Security, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Ismail Maalim Madey, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Youth Affairs. The focus of the discussion was the forthcoming Youth Town Hall Meeting on Youth Peace and Security.

Themed “Youth as a catalyst for sustainable peace,” the meeting aims to gather 200 participants from various youth forums. Its primary objective is to raise awareness and understanding among youth about their crucial role in promoting peace and security within their communities. The State Department, along with the Steering Committee, will lead substantive conversations, providing information and amplifying voices on the Youth Peace and Security (YPS) agenda during the planned event.

The youth participants are anticipated to actively engage and collaborate with stakeholders and networks to promote peace and security in the country. The meeting’s conclusion is expected to result in the formation of an alliance, working in synergy with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to effectively implement UNSCR 2250. Additionally, a periodic feedback mechanism for youths nationwide will be developed.

Secretary Youth Development, Mr. Raymond Ochieng HSC, also attended the meeting, contributing to the comprehensive discussions on Youth Peace and Security.
