PRIME CABINET SECRETARY, HON. MUSALIA W. MUDAVADI, VISITS THE MINISTRY OF YOUTH AFFAIRS, THE ARTS AND SPORTS EXHIBITION BOOTH

Hon. Musalia W. Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Kenya, visited Ministry of Youth Affairs, The Arts and Sports Exhibition Booth on 28th September this year during the ASK Nairobi show and was taken through the Talanta Hela  Initiative, a flagship program of the Ministry, whose key objective is monetising talents, by Ms. Monica Omoro, Deputy Director Public Communications/Head of the Communications, State Department for Youth Affairs & The Arts.

Briefing the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Ms. Omoro said that the TalantaHela initiative was being championed from the top level of the Ministry by CS Ababu Namwamba, EGH and was  being implemented  across the whole Ministry for maximum  impact  on  its intended target mostly the Youth, Creatives, Sportsperson  among others.

Ms. Omoro said His Excellency the President Dr. William Samoei Ruto PhD, CGH on June 9, 2023, launched the Talanta Hela Initiative at State House, Nairobi. This initiative is a key part of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). Its focus includes:

Talent Search and Commercialization: This involves nurturing talent in sports and the arts, led by organizations like the Kenya Academy of Sports and the Kenya Cultural Center. Activities include a National Talent Camp and the Talanta Hela Inter-County Football Tournament.

Infrastructure Development: A priority is given to completing and upgrading sports facilities like Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani, Nyayo National Stadium, and Kipchoge Keino Stadium. This supports Kenya’s bid to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Promotion of Innovation and Start-Ups: The Presidential Innovation Challenge, led by Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA), commenced in August 2023. It will culminate in the Commonwealth Innovation Week, where the best innovations and start-ups will be recognized.

Monetization of Talents: The Ministry aims to support sustainable livelihoods for creatives and athletes by providing rewards and attracting corporate sponsorship. Notable beneficiaries include top performers in the theater and film industry, as well as elite athletes like Faith Kipyegon and Ferdinand Omanyala

The Cabinet Prime Secretary was also briefed on Kenya Academy of Sports by Ms. Faith Nasei and Department of Sports, by Joshua Orowe
