The Regional Youth forum on ICGLR is holding a 2-days sensitization workshop for the Heads of Departments, State Department for Youth Affairs and creative economy at the Machakos University. The objective of the workshop is to;
๏ทEnhance understanding of the Regional Youth framework
๏ทAlign RYF with departmental roles
๏ทMainstream RYF into national priorities
๏ทStrengthen coordination mechanisms
Secretary for Youth Development Dr. Josephine Etenyi opened the workshop on behalf of the Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs. In his speech delivered by Dr. Etenyi the PS affirmed his personal and institutional commitment to the operationalization of ICGLR Youth Forum. He equally made assurance on;
๏The governmentโs commitment to youth empowerment as a driver for national transformation
๏State department currently implementing various national programmes aimed at expanding opportunities for the young people, among them the NYOTA project.
The PS noted that the Inter-governmental Conference on Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) -Youth forum compliments national efforts by providing a platform for regional cooperation, youth engagement and shared learning. PS Fikirini at the same time encouraged the Heads of Departments to strengthen alignment between regional commitments and national priorities.
The state department along with other partners is in the process of developing ping the national plan on youth peace and security NAP-YPS.
President of the Regional Youth Assembly Jacob Eyeru delved into the genesis of the inter-governmental conference on the Great lakes region (ICGLR), bringing the participants to speed with the rationale for the regional institution which aims at addressing Peace and Security issues among the member states. The Regional Coordinator Dr.Francis Nderitu convened the workshop.
