The New Secretary for Youth Development Dr. Josephine Etenyi has officially taken over the docket from the hitherto Ag. Secretary Mr. George Mbogo, in a brief ceremony presided over by the Director of Administration Mr. Kennedy Kimuyu.
The Secretary will be responsible for strategic leadership and coordination of the youth empowerment programmes as stipulated in the State departmentโs mandate, in addition to steering policy in youth mainstreaming and national development.
Prior to her appointment Dr. Josephine (PhD) was the Director of Policy, research and mainstreaming in the state department. The Immediate Ag.Secretary George Mbogo now reverts to his previous role as Director Entrepreneurship and skills development.
In his remarks Mr. Mbogo congratulated Dr. Etenyi for the well-deserved appointment and affirmed his unreserved support to ensure she succeeds in her new role. He also lauded the public service commission for settling on an insider of the youth department in the person of Josephine Etenyi. He observed that Dr. Etenyi is an invaluable resource for the State department in terms of institutional memory and a broad understanding of the youth development policy.
On her part Dr. Etenyi thanked Mr. Mbogo for steering the boat safely for the last fourteen months in acting capacity, through successful coordination of the ongoing policies and programmes. She underscored the need for concerted effort by way of appropriating everyoneโs experience and capacities for the achievement of the departmentโs objectives.
Dr. Etenyi is ushered into the docket by a full tray of activities to oversight including;
๏ถ The upcoming National Youth Council Elections, for which she reiterated is the prerogative of the State department and that collective effort is key.
๏ถ The International Youth Day (IYD) slated for August 2026
๏ถ Development of the Creative Economy Bill
๏ถ WHOโZ Next Talent Search initiative among others
The handover ceremony was witnessed by the Director of Administration Mr. Kennedy Kimuyu, and a host of technical Directors namely; Noah Otiend, Film Services; Deputy Director Bernard Ngotho, Innovation and Talent Development; Tom Oduol, Ag.
