CELEBRATING CREATIVITY: HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE 2ND PERFORMING ARTS CONFERENCE

At the conclusion of the 2nd Performing Arts Conference on Friday, July 19th, 2024, Mr. Moses Weunda, Director of Innovation & Talent Development and representative of Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy Mr. Ismail Maalim Madey, delivered a stirring address to mark the successful conclusion of the week-long event.

He underscored the commitment to developing policies that nurture a conducive environment for young artists to realize their full potential. The PS urged partners to collaborate in elevating the Kenya Cultural Centre to a world-class institution.

Key accomplishments highlighted included the launch of the County Theatre Fiesta and Ngoma na Sarakasi, initiatives aimed at fostering vibrant and innovative arts in Kenya.

In conclusion, he reaffirmed the department’s support for the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, ensuring dedicated resources for the advancement of the creative sector. PS Ismail Maalim Madey, through Director Weunda, also extended appreciation to Michael Pundo, CEO of Kenya Cultural Centre incorporating Kenya National Theatre – KNT, and his team for their outstanding coordination of the conference.

Representatives from institutions such as the British Council, universities, research institutions, and artist associations were also present, demonstrating broad support for the arts community in Kenya.

“Here’s to a future where our artistic talents can shine and flourish,” Director Weunda concluded optimistically.
